Earlier I had written about the dangerous chemical dihydrogen monoxide, which is actually a hoax to embarrass people about their ignorance of science — dihydrogen monoxide is the chemical name for water. (Do you remember from high school chemistry that di is two and mono is one? Thus two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom combine to make a molecule of water.)
News flash — the hoax is alive and well. Here is another source that gives an excellent explanation — http://www.snopes.com/science/dhmo.asp
Someday maybe we’ll be more sophisticated science-wise. Until then, this is fun to follow. Check out my Facebook page, Bob Welbaum-Author, for a picture of what dihydrogen monoxide can do to pipes. (Yes, folks, we’re talking about plain old rust.)
